VOTE YES ON THE NOVEMBER 5TH GBAPS REFERENDUM

On July 22, 2024, the Green Bay Area Public School District's Board of Education approved a $183 million referendum for the November 2024 ballot. HERE'S WHY.

And here's a series of great videos with more about the WHY:

The referendum is broken into two portions. $33 million for security and safety improvements at schools and $150 million for upgrades to existing elementary schools that will be adding additional students from locations that are being consolidated and the building of a new elementary school at the current site of Kennedy Elementary.

LEARN MORE about the 2024 referendum.

Green Bay Area Public Schools has a strong track record of responsible referendum management. In fact, the District's mill rate has decreased year-over-year since 2016 with the exception of 2023 when the mill rate increased slightly due to an increase to revenue limits that was not offset by state equalized aid.

If this referendum passes, IT WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR TAXES.

Champions is working hard to get this referendum passed. We strongly encourage you to vote YES to the referendum on your November 5th ballot.

GBAPS also has a track record of spending referendum dollars wisely and with significant impact throughout the district. LEARN MORE about the district-wide improvements that were made possible by the passage of the 2022 referendum.

PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDING: WHAT EVERY TAXPAYER NEEDS TO KNOW

Public school funding is complicated...which means it is also confusing. As a result, taxpayers are often left wondering - what's with all the referendums?!?

The short answer is that school funding has not kept up with inflation. In fact, there has been no cost-of-living adjustment to school funding in 16 years. As a result, districts are having to do more with less and to defer critical upkeep and maintenance so that they can provide the essential services and supports their students and staff need. As every vehicle and/or homeowner knows, maintenance can only be deferred for so long before the situation becomes dire. Currently, referendums are the only way for districts in Wisconsin to make up for the shortfall and fund that critical maintenance.

Here's a terrific video that explains how public school funding works and the critical role referendums play in that funding.
